B-Corporation: What Does It Mean, and Why Do We Want To Get Certified?

4 Women wearing sustainable seamless clothing in a park, blog post Pioneer Clothing aims to achieve the B Corporation certification by 2025.

Pioneer Clothing commits to becoming a B Corporation by 2025.

The chance is that you may have heard of B Corporation as more and more fashion brands wear this badge with pride. Here is a quick summary of this international designation in case you want to learn more about B Corporation.

We also want to share our commitment to joining this global movement towards a more sustainable economy.

What Is B Corporation?

The B Corporation (B Corp) certification is a prestigious designation awarded to for-profit companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. This certification is administered by B Lab, a global non-profit organisation. It signifies that a company is committed to balancing profit with purpose.

The certification process starts with the B Impact Assessment (BIA), a comprehensive tool that evaluates a company's impact on all stakeholders. This assessment covers a wide range of topics, from energy usage to employee benefits, charitable giving, supply chain practices, and customer stewardship. To be eligible, companies must score at least 80 out of 200 points, a standard Pioneer Clothing is committed to meeting.

Once a company meets the minimum score, it must provide supporting documentation and undergo a thorough review process by B Lab. Additionally, companies must amend their legal governing documents to require their board of directors to balance profit and purpose. This legal requirement ensures that the company's commitment to social and environmental goals is embedded in its DNA and not subject to changes in leadership or ownership.

Certified B Corps are also required to publish Impact Reports detailing their social and environmental performance in accordance with the transparency commitment under the designation.

A verification process is necessary every three years for B Corps to maintain their certification, ensuring continuous improvement and adherence to B Lab's evolving standards.

Why Does Pioneer Clothing Want to Become a B Corp and Do it Soon?

Getting certified by B Lab will demonstrate our dedication to sustainability and transparency. It would be equivalent to the Northern Star, which helps our customers navigate as greenwashing shadows the fashion industry.

We are also keen to join the B Corp global community of like-minded businesses committed to using business as a force for good because only together we can fight fast fashion's harmful practices of wastefulness, exploitation, pollution, and animal cruelty and move toward a more socially and environmentally ethical fashion industry.

Pioneer Clothing is built on three pillars: People, Partnership, and Planet. Pursuing social and climate justice is in our DNA.

Our aim is 2025, and we will see you there.
